This is a checklist, not legal advice. I'm a parent, not a lawyer. For help with your own situation, call your state's parent center (see "Who to call" below).
What to ask at the IEP meeting
Bring this on your phone. Tick each question when you ask it, type what the school says, and attach a photo of any letter. Your answers stay on this phone. Nothing is uploaded.
Who to call
- Any state: find your free parent center at parentcenterhub.org/find-your-center.
- Indiana: IN*SOURCE, Indiana's parent center. Phone 574-234-7101. insource.org/contact-us. Office: 310 West McKinley, Suite 300, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Indiana's special education rules (511 IAC Article 7) are on the Indiana Department of Education site (PDF).
If you disagree later
- An IEP dispute goes to a state complaint or due process, not OCR. Your procedural safeguards notice explains both.
- A 504 complaint goes to the US Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (OCR), usually within 180 days. How to file with OCR.
